Ascension

At some point during their evolution, the Ancients reached a stage of being where they rid themselves of their bodies and rose to a higher plane, one in which they live as pure energy. They call Ascension the passage from our plane to theirs.

Rid from their bodies, the ascended ones are much less limited and have great powers. They can come back to their human form if they want to, but then lose part of their knowledge and all the powers they gained through Ascension.

Theoretically, they shall not intervene in our plane, but several broke this law, Oma Desala first, each time she helped somebody finding the way of Ascension.

However, finding Ascension has been hard, even for the Ancients, and they researched it, mainly through observation. Some artifacts have been found as a proof of this research, like a containment vessel for an energy creature, and a module that enabled one to see creatures in a parallel dimension.
