The Asgards

The Asgards are one of the four great races. They resemble a Roswell gray. Besides, they have visited Earth often in order to oversee the evolution of human race.

They live in another galaxy, a world that the inhabitants of Cimmeria call Thrudvang, Thor's home in the stars.

The Asgards are friend to all, protector of all, except the Goa'uld, with whom they are at war.

According to Daniel, their written language is Othala, the Norse rune (their planet in the galaxy of Ida is also called Othala).

The Asgards sometimes ask help from SG-1 to fight the replicators, because their firearms are somehow efficient, and added to their inventiveness, it has often been fatal to these ennemies.

The Asgards reproduce by cloning, and for nearly a thousand years have been physically incapable of achieving cell division through meiosis (sexual reproduction). As each Asgard's body fails, his consciousness is transferred into a newer, younger version of himself. Lack of genetic diversity has led to eventual deterioration during cloning, and a process of irreversible genetic manipulation through controlled mutation has helped to temporarily avoid complete genetic breakdown.
