In Norse mythology, the residence of the gods is called Asgard, opposing to Midgard, the dwelling-place of men, and to the other worlds existing around Yggdrasil.

One can reach Asgard only by crossing the Bifrost bridge ("the rainbow"). What they see then is a world divided into twelve kingdoms where each main god has their own golden or silver dwelling-place. The main palace, known as the Valhalla, is the residence of Odin, the ruler of the gods.
